Terms of Service

1. Who we are

Board Game Ranker ("BGR", "we", "us") is a board game ranking and collection app for the web and Android. An independent developer based in Australia runs it. These terms cover your use of our website and app. By using BGR you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 to use BGR and to hold an account. Where local law sets a higher age for digital consent, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf. The service is not directed at children under 13.

3. Your account

Most of BGR works without an account. If you create one (Google sign-in or username and password), keep your credentials secure. You're responsible for activity under your account, and you should tell us promptly if you suspect someone has used it without permission. You can delete your account at any time. Our privacy policy and the delete-account page explain how, and what is removed.

4. Premium subscription

BGR Premium is an optional, auto-renewing subscription that unlocks cloud sync and other paid features. It is billed monthly or yearly at the price shown at checkout or in Google Play, and it renews at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, and your Premium access continues until the end of the current paid period. Premium's features may change over time. Feedback and feature requests are welcome, but sending one doesn't guarantee we'll build or keep any particular feature.

On Android, Google Play sells Premium, so Google Play's terms also apply to your purchase. Manage or cancel it in your Google Play account. On the web, manage or cancel it through the billing portal we link from the app. Premium access starts as soon as your payment is confirmed.

If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you keep your 14-day right of withdrawal even though Premium has already started. Within 14 days of subscribing, tell us you want to withdraw. For a web purchase, use the contact form on our website. For an Android purchase, request a refund through Google Play. You will be refunded in full, with no deduction for the time you already had access. Otherwise, refunds follow your rights under applicable law and the rules of the store you bought through.

5. Tips

You can send the developer an optional tip through Stripe's checkout. We show the amount before you pay, anywhere from A$1 to A$500, and Stripe processes it under its own terms. A tip is a voluntary gift. It doesn't buy a product, unlock a feature, or grant Premium or any other benefit. Tips are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise. Nothing here takes away a consumer guarantee that can't be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or an equivalent law where you live.

6. Prices and the app

The BGR Android app is a one-time paid download (A$4.99 at the time of writing). Premium is an optional subscription on top of that. Your store shows the price of the app or any in-app purchase at the point of purchase. Prices may vary by region and may change over time, and they include taxes where required.

7. Acceptable use

Use BGR lawfully. Don't break, overload, or probe the service or its security. Don't use it to infringe others' rights, to upload unlawful or abusive content, or to scrape or resell data beyond normal personal use. Don't misuse the BoardGameGeek or other third-party integrations. We may suspend or limit access to protect the service or other users.

8. Your content

You keep ownership of the content you create in BGR, including your rankings, decks, ratings, comments, and any images you upload. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, and display that content, solely to operate and provide the service to you and the people you choose to share it with. You are responsible for having the rights to anything you upload. You can remove your content or delete your account to end this licence, subject to the backup retention described in our privacy policy.

9. Third-party services and data

BGR works with third parties including BoardGameGeek (BGG), Google, and Stripe. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of BoardGameGeek. BGG game data and artwork belong to their respective owners, and BGG's own terms also apply when you use BGG through BGR. Google's and Stripe's terms also apply when you use their features.

BGR also shows board game rankings published by independent reviewers and communities, such as The Dice Tower. These rankings are factual information about what each reviewer published, and we credit each list to its original source. The reviewer's or network's name, logo, and trademarks belong to them. We show them only to identify whose list it is, and we aren't affiliated with or endorsed by them. Where we show a short profile (a name, role, photo, or links), it comes from the reviewer's own public material and is there to credit them. If you're a reviewer or rights holder and want a listing corrected or taken down, contact us through the form on our website and we'll sort it out.

10. Intellectual property

BGR's name, design, and software are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law. These terms give you no right to our branding or code beyond using the service as intended. Board game names, images, and data belong to their respective publishers and owners.

11. Disclaimers

BGR is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that data synced from third parties such as BGG is accurate. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any rights you have that cannot be excluded under law, including the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.

12. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, or for loss of data or profits, arising from your use of BGR. Where our liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, it is limited to re-supplying the service or paying the cost of having it re-supplied. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including under the Australian Consumer Law.

13. Suspension and termination

You can stop using BGR or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms, to protect the service or other users, or to comply with the law. Some terms continue to apply after termination because of their nature: the content licence to the extent still needed, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. We'll post the updated version here and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email. If you keep using BGR after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Australia, and you and we submit to the courts of Australia, without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
